Why do this home kit?

A comprehensive Cholesterol, Kidney, Thyroid and PSA test evaluates the functioning of some of your essential organs. A small sample of blood is used to measure the levels of key chemicals that indicate the health status of these organs.

An elevated cholesterol level will indicate if you need to take action to lower this and so lower your risk of heart attack and stroke. Knowing your thyroid function will likewise enable appropriate treatment in the event that the gland is under or overactive. Kidney function tests are important indicators of general health. Finally, the PSA test measures the levels of Prostate-Specific Antigen in men. When prostate cancer is present, the PSA levels are typically elevated. This PSA test, then, allows men a simple way to test for the PSA level at home.*

*Elevated PSA may be a sign of prostate disease, including prostate cancer. However, having a high PSA level does not necessarily mean you have prostate cancer. The PSA test should be used in tandem with other tests, or used to measure PSA levels over time. If PSA levels continue to rise over time, it may then indicate a need for further investigations to be done.

Which gender is the test for?

This test is for males only.

How are the tests done?

A single finger prick blood test is taken by you at home using the kit provided. Once you have posted the sample to the Lab, the blood is assayed for cholesterol level and liver function profile. These results will be given to you via careoncall.ie by an Irish-registered GP.

How will I get the results?

The results will be delivered to your confidential medical file on the careoncall.ie website. They will be assessed by one of our Irish-registered doctors, and if further action is required, you will be advised as to what the next steps are.

What if my results indicate a health issue?

The doctor takes into consideration the questionnaire you filled out with your medical history, as well as your test results, before advising you on further action.
